Our community engagement activities seek to promote the ecosystemic vision, and aim at the participants (children, youth and adults) becoming agents of change for environmental care through the understanding of ecological processes, the recognition of the impact of our actions, sensitivity and environmental responsibility. To do this, we develop various activities focused on reducing threats to the conservation objects of the Melimoyu Nature Reserve.
We work in close collaboration with communities and with local stakeholders who can actively contribute to reducing threats and disseminating good environmental practices.
Some of the organizations we work with are:
- Chambers of commerce and tour operators
- Neighborhood boards and community organizations dedicated to the care of the environment
- Government authorities (municipalities, the Navy and Sernapesca)
The type of activity to be carried out (didactic activity, talk, training, stand at a fair or other) is defined according to the context, the issues addressed, the needs of the group, the specific objective to be achieved, and incorporates the perspectives of both collaborators (MERI Foundation and the allied organization).
The objective of the initiatives developed is to become opportunities for the exchange of experiences and knowledge, understanding that local knowledge is a contribution to scientific research and environmental education. And, the associativity between the diverse actors that inhabit the territory is fundamental for the protection of its natural and cultural heritage.
